Ibiza 1 Radio Dance Station
Ibiza recently bore witness to a monumental leap in live electronic music performance. On Monday, June 2nd, the island’s newest venue, [UNVRS], hosted the world exclusive debut of Eric Prydz‘s visionary new show, Holosphere 2.0. This groundbreaking presentation marks a significant chapter in electronic music history, meticulously crafted for the dancefloor and powered by one of the most technically advanced spaces on the planet. Holosphere 2.0 stands as a cutting-edge demonstration of how technology, innovation, and human creativity intertwine.
Engineered from the ground up specifically for [UNVRS], Holosphere 2.0 transcends the traditional definition of a show; it embodies a fully realized artistic vision. Towering over eight meters high and weighing a staggering eight tonnes, the Sphere represents years of dedicated design and technical refinement. It merges a live, reactive performance with an almost impossible feat of engineering.
At the core of this spectacle, Eric Prydz performs encased within three transparent layers of custom LED screens, effectively inside the world’s first holographic concert sphere. This concept differs starkly from anything previously seen in club culture, presenting an arena-scale production adapted for a dark, smoky rave environment. It is not constrained by a fixed storyline; rather, it lives, breathes, and evolves in real-time, shaped by Prydz’s ever-changing musical selections.
“We’ve waited six years for this,” says Eric Prydz. “Not because we wanted to, but because we had to. The technology needed to catch up with our vision as every single part of Holosphere 2.0 is bespoke and original. This is what we always dreamed of.”
Constructing the Sphere required that every single component be custom-made, with no off-the-shelf parts utilized. Precision engineering was paramount, balancing the need for engineering-grade strength with near-total transparency. This ambitious undertaking was only feasible thanks to [UNVRS]’s expansive main room and arena-like infrastructure, making it one of the few venues globally capable of supporting such a structure.
A dream team of animators and digital artists, including GMUNK, collaborated to bring the Sphere to life. They seamlessly blended cinematic CGI with practical effects, which were captured in a Los Angeles studio. Giant crystal orbs, plasma balls, and burning glass were filmed in 360 degrees, then laser-mapped and meticulously stitched into immersive holographic environments. Each loop functions as a standalone digital sculpture.
The result is a generational leap forward in show content and visual fidelity. Significant improvements in resolution, pixel pitch, color depth, and overall engineering distinguish this iteration from the original Holosphere, which debuted in 2019. It is crucial to understand that this is not merely a sequel, but a complete reimagination of the iconic show concept. Supporting Prydz on this monumental opening night were rising talents Rivo, J Ribbon, and Bender, each contributing their unique energy to a truly historic event.
Conceived by The Night League, the creative force behind Ushuaïa Ibiza and Hï Ibiza, and led by Owner, Founder, and CEO Yann Pissenem, [UNVRS] represents a bold new chapter in nightlife. This venue transcends its physical form, functioning as part nightclub, part sculpture, and part dream. Beyond its impressive technical specifications, [UNVRS] provides the creative space and freedom essential to push Holosphere 2.0 to its absolute limits.
Equipped with an arena-sized ceiling rig, a bespoke lighting grid, crystal-clear L-Acoustics sound, and an immersive production environment developed in collaboration with world-renowned production company High Scream, [UNVRS] is more than just a venue; it is an integral part of the performance itself. For Prydz and his team, the venue signifies a perfect alignment: a radical new structure perfectly complementing a radically ambitious show.
Eric Prydz presents Holosphere 2.0 every Monday at [UNVRS], from June 2nd to September 1st. Tickets are available via www.unvrs.com.
